It
is good for athletes to set challenging, yet attainable goals and
have a mindset of when they can achieve these goals after a certain
amount and quality of hard work.
If you haven't yet, fill out the goals
sheet and give a copy to
the Coach. Aim for a short term goal (one you can reach during the dual meet
season) and a long term goal (for example at Championships, in our case).
The goal sheets are for personal best times, however each swimmer
should also have goals such as coming to practice 5 days a week,
trying hard at practice, helping out their teammates by encouraging
and cheering for them, etc. All of these "non-time-based" goals are
important for establishing responsible and dedicated athletes.
Not only will these goals help swimmers reach their intended personal
goal times by the end of the season and make them responsible athletes,
but they will also promote a goal oriented and positive environment.
